Protect Seniors, Help Stop Price-Gouging

Stop Exorbitant Rent Increases and Ensure Safety in Assisted Living!
Take a stand for reasonable rents and emergency preparations for our seniors

All across California, elderly residents and their family members are facing skyrocketing rents at assisted living facilities. But residents at Atria Senior Living facilities are feeling it most of all.

While the national average for rent increases in assisted living facilities is 4-5%, many Atria residents are facing increases of 8-12% year after year. Worse, Atria residents in California and elsewhere are suffering through blackouts and other problems with emergency preparedness.

Now California elected leaders have introduced two “Atria Bills” to protect residents at Atria and all assisted living facilities.

The “Atria Bills” will require:

  • Public disclosure on past rent increases so that potential assisted living residents and their family members can make the best decisions.
  • Procedures for current residents to appeal exorbitant rent increases.
  • Written emergency plans so residents and their family members can rest easier.

AB 2370, introduced by Assembly Majority Leader Karen Bass, will help hold assisted living providers like Atria Senior Living responsible to residents and family members by forcing them to disclose their exorbitant rent increases to residents BEFORE they move in.

AB 2101, introduced by Assemblymember Lois Wolk, will give residents a chance to appeal exorbitant rent increases, and help make sure assisted living facilities like Atria Senior Living have plans in place to deal with emergencies.

Atria is one of the largest assisted living providers in California, and is owned by a private equity buyout fund affiliated with Lazard, a Wall Street firm managing more than $140 billion globally. This legislation is critical to holding corporations like Atria accountable for more than high profits.

The Campaign to Improve Assisted Living is gathering support for these “Atria Bills,” and we hope you will add your voice to the cry for reasonable rents and increased safety for our state’s elderly citizens.
