We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Nurse Alliance of California.

The short explanation of this alert was:

On Wednesday, April 16th, The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and several health care advocacy groups successfully fought against a flawed bill that would have excluded health care coverage for low income children, privatized the jobs of thousands of public health workers, and could have potentially led to the closure of county hospitals.

Because our union was in committee pushing to change the bill, the worst parts of SB 1459 were promised to be taken out. But to guarantee the result we need, messages are needed to the state senate to let them know nurses are watching. Please send a message to your senator today demanding that the bill eventually gets amended.

"The public health system in California must be safeguarded and is the safety net of health care delivery. To deplete or compromise its critical public health services at the local regional and state level, affects the health status of the entire population."Rosie Martinez, RN, Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health
