Dear President Obama,

Congratulations on receiving the Nobel Prize. We heard your inspiring call to cation in accepting the honor and want to be the first to answer it.

We, the undersigned, are the leaders of SEIU-UHW, a union of more than 150,000 members who are determined to make the world a more just, humane, peaceful, and healthy place, starting in our own communities.

This weekend, more than 1,700 of us came together at our Leadership Assembly in Anaheim, California to chart a course to make our union stronger and more effective. As part of our work, we are each committing to volunteer five days over the course of the next year to organize the unorganized, to participate in political action, and to build and strengthen community relationships and alliances.

More importantly, we each commit to recruiting five additional leaders to join in our shared vision for a better future. We will recruit, train and mobilize 10,000 members of our union to provide leadership to make our country, and the world, a better place.

Through these actions we believe we will create an ever growing number of just workplaces and healthy communities, and we will win affordable quality care for everyone in America. Thank you for your leadership.
