Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed cuts to the Department of Public Health Budget that would devastate several programs, and compromise California’s public heath system by cutting staff positions on the state, county and city level. Cuts he wants include: 

• 10% in funds to Local Health Jurisdictions (counties or cities) for Maternal, Child, and Adolescent  Health services.
• 10% cuts to programs aimed at preventing the risk of pregnant and parenting adolescents.
• Eliminating services for 556 families to reduce low birth weight and infant mortality in the Black Infant Health Program.
• Cuts to shelters resulting in no protection for 13,000 women escaping domestic violence.   
• Cutting state positions in support of many Center for Family Health programs, including the Birth Defects Monitoring Program.
