The short explanation of this alert was:

Congress is now considering a plan that would help more families have access to the quality child care they need, and they need to hear from child care providers like ourselves NOW!

As providers, we all know just how much a quality child care setting can influence a child's future. That's why federal child care assistance programs were created: to ensure that low-income families had the opportunity to place their young children in a nurturing setting while they were away at work.

The biggest of these programs, the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), unfortunately has suffered during the Bush Administration. Since 2001, over 150,000 children in the U.S. have lost access to these critical services due to yearly funding cuts, and only 1 in 7 children eligible for federal aid are able to receive the help they need.

Now, Congress has an opportunity to reverse Bush's trend by adding $75 million to the CCDBG program. That's why it's CRITICAL that we tell our Senators and Representatives to STOP slashing child care programs and to BEGIN investing in our nation's children.
