What's At Stake?Tell Our Legislators And Governor Rendell: Time For The Consumer Workforce Council! The time has come. Pennsylvania's largest senior organizations, disability rights groups, and healthcare workers' unions have come together to expand and protect home care for all Pennsylvanians. Together, we support the Consumer Workforce Council, because it will: -- Expand home care options for seniors and people with disabilities -- Ensure that the home care attendants who support them have living wages and health benefits. Pennsylvania's population is the third oldest in the country. People with disabilities want to live in their homes, not nursing homes. The home care workers who work with seniors and people with disabilities every day simply don't get the compensation they need to stay on the job. A Consumer Workforce Council, led by seniors and people with disabilities, will: -- Protect the rights of seniors and people with disabilities to direct their own long term care, particualry their ability as consumers to hire, train, and dismiss attendants. -- Help connect seniors, people with disabilities, and direct care workers through a comprehensive workforce directory. -- Provide backup services when a direct care worker is unavailable. -- Reduce turnover and provide optional training for direct care workers. -- Raise wages and health care benefits for thousands of Pennsylvania workers who need them. It’s time for home care that works for everyone. It’s time for the Consumer Workforce Council. Write your letter here now, and we'll send it to the legislators most responsible for long term care in the Commonwealth, and Governor Rendell –tell them why a Consumer Workforce Council works for you.
